The Founder
Lee Martineau farms north of Bearberry, Alberta. He did not come to regenerative agriculture through a textbook. He came through the same frustration most producers know well: the tools available did not match the problem in front of him. That gap led to Terra Preta Ag.
Why Terra Preta
Terra preta means dark earth in Portuguese. It refers to ancient Amazonian soils deliberately enriched centuries ago using biochar, bone, and organic matter. Those soils remain extraordinarily fertile today, long after the civilizations that built them are gone. That is not a coincidence. It is a principle. Soil health is not about feeding plants. It is about building biological systems that sustain fertility season after season without synthetic inputs. That idea is the foundation of everything Terra Preta Ag makes.
